Rosewood Cottage to Hunmanby

Hunmanby Gap Beach and Cafe

It is a pleasant walk along the road to Hunmanby Gap Beach, approximately 2 miles. It is even better on a bike. From the railway station, head along Bridlington Street, as far as Peter Milnes Garage (on your left) and turn right along Sands Lane. Continue along Sand Lane, over the Level Crossing, past the Piebald Inn on your left-hand side and the Hunmanby Playing Fields to your left. After 10 minutes you will pass the end of Sheep Dyke Lane on your left, an alternative route from the village. See the Walks around Hunmanby Page.
From the junction with Sheepdyke Lane, Sands Lane, becomes Sands Road, it sees little traffic with a mixture of pasture and arable field on both sides of the road with sheep grazing. You pass over a little stream and the entrance to Rosedale Reservoir Farm and your right.
As you approach the main coast road (A165) take the turn on your left down a short track, rather than walking round the roundabout. Then, turn right up and an old, metalled track, which was the old course of Sands Road, before the building of the Reighton bypass. You then reach a crossing point of the A165. Straight ahead, again can be see the old route of Sands Road, follow this a short distance and you re-join Sands Road proper. It is again a straight road to Hunmanby Gap.
